Do you do any SEO as part of my maintenance?

We perform Google Search Console scans on your site to make sure there are no red flags on your site in Google’s eyes.

A lot of imperfect SEO information gets floated around. Some of the biggest factors in your site’s search engine optimization is the technical soundness of the site, it’s mobile friendliness, and the aggregate of interactions people have with your site. If you check all those boxes, going deep on quality copy will keep pushing your site up the ranks. This is one reason our sites often rank well with no additional SEO effort.

We do offer content creation services that are fantastic for SEO and would be happy to discuss them with you.

What is considered a content update?

We define a content update as adding to, altering, or taking away page content on your website that we are actively hosting and maintaining. This does not mean writing copy, altering site structure code, creating graphics, editing photos, researching and altering SEO meta data, custom coding new functionality into the site, etc. Adding things like plugins to the site we consider on a case-by-case basis.

Example discretionary update: some plugins are as simple as adding a snippet of code and saving. If that’s the case we probably won’t need to bill. If the code requires developer time to get it working with the site, we will need to bill for development time.

Can you create a design or write copy for me as a part of maintenance?

We are content creating masters. We can design something that perfectly fits with your brand and place it in just the right spot on your website. The content creation is an additional service. But the content addition to your website IS included in your maintenance.

Can I actually talk to someone on your team?

You bet! Simply use our contact form and request a call back.

Why a call back?

Early on we thought the best approach would be to give clients direct access to our Help Team so they could get immediate help with their needs. We learned that is not the case. Here are some examples of why-

  • If your contact person is no longer at LUMN and you keep trying to reach them, you might get frustrated and think no one is responding to you.
  • It actually slows down our responsiveness. If our Help Team is on the phone, they aren’t completing requests. We have drastically reduced our ticket times by reducing interruptions to our team’s workflow.
  • One of your disgruntled employees or ill-meaning competitor could call us and request an unauthorized change to your site.
  • We can get the right person involved. If you had a previous interaction with us and established history, we can check that history, get spun up, and get the right person involved to best handle your request.
  • A random, private conversation with one of our team members may get lost. When you use our ticket system it gets logged so it can’t fall through the cracks.
Does maintenance include taking care of my email?

Website hosting and email hosting are two different things. We have found that it is better for businesses to use their own selected IT group to set up and manage their email as it is such a critical part of their communications and integrates so deeply with their software and computer systems. *It is a common point of confusion for a business to think if something is wrong with their email it is because of a problem with their website. This is usually not the case.

Can I log in and make my own changes to the site?

Yes! But we don’t recommend it. This question is typically asked by a business that had unpleasant waiting periods for changes to be implemented by other groups. Once a business sees how quickly we make changes they are usually very happy to send future change requests to us to do. WARNING: if you insist on making changes yourself, know that it is not considered part of maintenance for us to fix any code that might have been inadvertently broken. We’re happy to assist and want you to be satisfied, but tinkering with your site may lead to a “manufacturer’s warranty broken” type situation.
